Killin’ Time: Our top 5 MCU Movies to date.

Killin’ Time: Our top 5 MCU Movies to date.

Post Date: 3/19/18

With the second Infinity War trailer dropping this past week, I thought it would be a fun idea to give our top 5 picks in the MCU to date. Now it wouldn't be much of a post if I just bullet pointed my top 5 movies would it? I didn't think so, so what i'll do is start from number 5 and give brief insight as to why.

#5 The Avengers
"There was an idea, Stark knows this, called the Avengers Initiative. The idea was to bring together a group of remarkable people, see if they could become something more. See if they could work together when we needed them to to fight the battles we never could." Now you can't talk about The Avengers without providing context this movie was the culmination of everything that came before it and what a fantastic ride it was. Seeing all of the heroes together during the NYC invasion scene was incredible moment for fans of both longtime comic fans and fans of the MCU.  This movie still stands among the best of what the MCU has to offer.

#4 Captain America: The Winter Solider
This movies first scene sets the tone for everything else to come in the movie, it shows us a a revamped Steve Rodgers that's got caught up to speed on a lot of how the world works, he's still old school but with a better grip on how Shield operates and his place in the 21st Century. At least he thinks he does. The big reveals that Hydra has not only infiltrated Shield but actually runs the show is a great twist but setting up the Bucky Barns Winter Soldier connection is compelling stuff that leads to very real consequences later on in the MCU.

#3 Guardians of the Galaxy

I couldn't have been the only person that went into the theater not knowing who the Guardians of the Galaxy were, but hot damn I couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised in learning what I was missing. Our first foray into the Cosmic side of the Marvel Universe and a greater understanding of the Infinity Stones and Thanos's reputation in the universe. Between Chris Pratt's Peter Quill's Han Solo-lite antics (its Starlord man!) and the rest of the Guardians approach to comedy this movie is something special. I would be remiss not to mention that absolutely fantastic OST for the film!

#2 Thor: Ragarok
If you haven't yet seen the latest Thor film, you may be confused, and/or upset by seeing a Thor film this high up on the rankings. To that I say, GO WATCH THIS FILM.  It has taken ingredients from other films in the MCU and implemented them perfectly, it's comedy gold, while maintaining a plot line that works on multiple levels. It progresses the characters while also answering some questions from previous movies (like where Hulk went after Avengers: Age of Ultron) Most of all I think it shows that if done correctly, Thor & Hulk can carry a film. Something until now has not been done well.

#1 Captain America: Civil War
I'm not sure how someone could have a top of list concerning the MCU and not come to the same conclusion. Civil War does everything the Avengers does, just better. It takes plot points established in other fantastic movies in the MCU (Looking at you Winter Solider) and pushes the entire universe forward creating real repercussions for the events that take place. We see long time team mates take sides on an issue that they cannot find a middle ground on. We also see our first look at Tom Holland's Spider-Man which is right before one of the most memorable action sequences in the entirety of the MCU.

Honorable Mentions:
Any of these movies could have made the top 5 list depending on the day, they're all fantastic in their own ways. Do you think I nailed it with our list or do you think i'm nuts? Let me know in the comments!

Iron Man
Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 2
